Lake Worth Beach and Lantana at a Glance for Business Owners
These are two separate municipalities, each with its own government, rules and beach, but they share a shoreline on the Lake Worth Lagoon, which Palm Beach County calls its largest estuary, running 20 miles from North Palm Beach to Ocean Ridge (opens in a new tab). The City of Lake Worth Beach counted 42,219 residents at the 2020 Census and the Town of Lantana 11,504. By July 1, 2025, the Census Bureau estimated 43,970 and 12,449, according to QuickFacts for both places (opens in a new tab).
Neither place swells much in winter. The county planning division's 2020 estimate adds about 2,916 seasonal residents to Lake Worth Beach and 1,288 to Lantana, a small bump next to their permanent populations (Palm Beach County Profile (opens in a new tab)). Compare South Palm Beach, a small town nearby, where the same estimate adds 1,116 seasonal residents to 1,471 year-round ones. Most of your customers here are people who live in town in August as well as in February.
Lake Worth Beach
The city has changed names before. The Historical Society of Palm Beach County recounts that the 1912 townsite was platted as Lucerne until word came that another post office had already claimed that name, so it became Lake Worth. In March 2019, residents voted to rename their city Lake Worth Beach (opens in a new tab). Expect customers, old directory listings and some maps to keep using the shorter name for years.
Preservation shapes what a downtown storefront can look like. The city has designated six local historic districts (opens in a new tab): College Park, Old Lucerne, the Old Town Commercial District, Northeast Lucerne, Southeast Lucerne and South Palm Park, plus four individually significant structures. The City Commission adopted a historic preservation ordinance in 1996, and a Certificate of Appropriateness (opens in a new tab) is required before exterior work begins on a historic property.
The beach is city-run. The complex at 10 S Ocean Blvd centers on the Casino Building, which opened in 2013 and, in the city's words, remains true to the original 1920s architecture (opens in a new tab). It holds restaurants, shops and a 3,000 square foot ballroom and sits beside the William O. Lockhart Pier, which reaches 960 feet into the Atlantic. The city's recreation department (opens in a new tab) lists year-round lifeguard coverage along its quarter-mile beach.
Away from the beach, the city's Community Redevelopment Agency, created in 1989 (opens in a new tab), works on the economic vitality of its district. Its commercial grant programs (opens in a new tab) list up to $55,000 for facade work, up to $55,000 for interior improvements and up to $5,000 toward a new professionally designed sign, each requiring at least a 50% match from the applicant and all for properties inside the CRA district. The current application window runs from October 1, 2026 to May 28, 2027.
The Census numbers describe a younger, working, bilingual city. Half of residents (50.3%) are Hispanic or Latino, 40.7% were born outside the United States and 15.1% are 65 or older, well below the county's 26.1%. In the 2020-2024 survey, 67.6% of residents 16 and older were in the labor force, working or looking for work, against 59.6% countywide. The 2022 Economic Census counted about $477.7 million in retail sales inside the city, $191.9 million in health care and social assistance receipts and $87.3 million in accommodation and food services sales.
Two public services are worth knowing about. Tri-Rail's Lake Worth Beach Station (opens in a new tab) sits at 1703 Lake Worth Road, with Palm Tran routes 61 and 62 connecting to it. And the city operates its own electric utility (opens in a new tab), which calls itself a nonprofit, citizen-owned utility.
Lantana
Lantana incorporated in 1921 and covers roughly 3 square miles, according to the town's About Us page (opens in a new tab), which traces its origins to an old Florida fishing village. Several of its public facilities still serve boaters and anglers. Sportsman's Park (opens in a new tab) at 320 E Ocean Avenue has two boat ramps, 27 trailer parking spaces for decal holders, three fish cleaning stations and a seawall and pier for Intracoastal fishing. The Municipal Beach Park (opens in a new tab) at 100 N Ocean Blvd offers 750 feet of beach, and the town lists 11 parks and facilities (opens in a new tab) in all, including a kayak park and a nature preserve.
The town is also planning for change. Its State of the Town annual report (opens in a new tab) describes a 7-acre master plan to redesign the beachfront and records the Town Council's January 2025 approval of a phased redevelopment of an 18-acre former retail site on South Dixie Highway, with 426 homes and about 22,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space.
Lantana's population mix differs from its larger neighbor's. Here 21.6% of residents are 65 or older, 36.7% are Black and 36.5% were born outside the United States. The language table holds a surprise: about 2,474 residents age 5 and older speak French, Haitian or Cajun at home (the Census groups the three), more than the 1,659 who speak Spanish, according to the 2020-2024 language spoken at home table (opens in a new tab). The town's annual report also notes that it hosted a Haitian American Heritage Month celebration in 2025.
For owners, the town keeps a Doing Business page (opens in a new tab) explaining the Business Tax Receipt most businesses need and the sign rules covering size, type, placement and illumination.
What a Website Needs to Do in These Two Towns
Those facts point to a handful of specific jobs: being found under the right name, being understood by customers who may read Spanish, French or Haitian Creole first, and staying accurate while storefronts, streets and whole blocks around you change.
- Retire the old name carefully: if your domain, email address or business name still says Lake Worth, there is no need to change it on impulse. If you do switch, forward every old page to its new address with a permanent redirect so links and bookmarks keep working. The city's own redevelopment agency did exactly that: its older lakeworthcra.org address now forwards to lakeworthbeachcra.org.
- Pick a second language from the table, not a hunch: in Lake Worth Beach, 17,639 residents speak Spanish at home and 10,866 of them report speaking English less than very well. In Lantana the order flips, and the Census group that includes Haitian Creole is the larger one. A shop that draws from both towns may need both languages; one that sells mostly to Lantana households may need French or Creole before Spanish.
- Give directions from public landmarks: the Casino Building and pier, the Tri-Rail station on Lake Worth Road, Sportsman's Park on East Ocean Avenue and the Lantana beach on North Ocean Boulevard are fixed points customers already know. Say how far you are from them and where to park. The town requires a parking decal for the boat trailer spaces at Sportsman's Park, so a marine or bait shop that serves out-of-town boaters can save them a wasted trip by mentioning it.
- Serve the regulars every week: with seasonal estimates this small, most of your customers are still here in the middle of summer. Weekly specials, class schedules, appointment booking and an events page you can edit yourself matter more than a winter-only campaign.
- Build for slow connections and quick calls: in the 2020-2024 survey, 83.2% of Lake Worth Beach households had a broadband subscription of any kind, compared with 90.0% in Lantana. That leaves roughly one Lake Worth Beach household in six without one, so some customers will find you on a borrowed or public connection, or will simply call. Pages that load quickly on an older phone and a phone number that is always one tap away matter more here than a large video on the homepage.
- Point storm updates to the right official source: Lake Worth Beach customers on the city's own electric utility follow its outage updates, while Lantana sends emergency alerts through its CodeRED system. Link to those pages rather than copying details that change by the hour.
Industries We Build For in These Two Towns
Census figures on spending and housing in each town suggest where a clearer website can do the most work.
- Restaurants, cafes and food counters. The Census counted about $87.3 million in accommodation and food services sales in Lake Worth Beach in 2022 and $65.2 million in Lantana. Bilingual menus where your customers need them, hours that match your Google listing and directions from the beach all count. See restaurant website design.
- Independent retail and personal services. Lantana's 2022 retail sales work out to $17,905 per resident, well above Lake Worth Beach's $11,055, a hint that Lantana stores sell to plenty of people who live elsewhere. That makes town-name pages and clean listings worth the effort; our local SEO work covers both, and custom website design gives each shop its own look.
- Boating, fishing and beach businesses. Tackle shops, charters, kayak rentals and marine repair near the Lantana ramps or the Lake Worth Beach pier need clear booking paths and photos of the real gear. See hospitality website design.
- Agents, landlords and property managers. Owner-occupied homes had a median value of $401,200 in Lake Worth Beach and $396,200 in Lantana in the 2020-2024 survey. Listings in a historic district can explain what preservation review means for a buyer, and rental listings have needs of their own, covered in the questions below. See real estate website design.
- Health care, legal and social services. With $191.9 million in health care and social assistance receipts in Lake Worth Beach alone, clinics and practices need pages that work with screen readers and in a second language. See ADA website accessibility.
- Contractors and trades. Roofers, window installers and painters who work on older homes have a city review process to explain (see the questions below), and a clear, specific explanation is the kind of answer AI search tools are able to quote. See answer engine optimization.

Website Questions Specific to These Two Towns
Should my website say Lake Worth or Lake Worth Beach?
Use Lake Worth Beach as the city name in your address, page titles, structured data and Google Business Profile, because that has been the city's official name since voters approved the change in 2019. Then mention the old name once in ordinary text, for example by noting that your shop is in Lake Worth Beach (formerly Lake Worth), so people who still search the shorter name can find you. One clear mention is enough; repeating both names in every paragraph reads badly and helps nobody.
I am redoing my storefront with a Lake Worth Beach CRA grant. What should change on my website?
Plan a photo update for the week the work is finished. New facade and sign photos belong on your homepage, your contact page and your Google Business Profile, so customers recognize the building when they arrive. If the property sits in one of the city's local historic districts, a short paragraph about the building's history on your About page is worth adding too, because it is content no competitor can copy.
Lantana approved a big redevelopment on South Dixie Highway. Should a business nearby plan its website around it?
Plan for it without getting ahead of it. The town's annual report says the Town Council approved the phased project in January 2025, with new homes and ground-floor commercial space on a former retail site. The useful website work comes as each phase opens: update your directions and parking notes if construction changes access, and add a short section telling new neighbors what you offer and how close you are. Until a phase is actually open, keep promises about the project off your site.
More than half the occupied homes in Lake Worth Beach are rented. What should a property manager's website show?
Write for renters first, because they are a large share of the people searching: in the 2020-2024 survey, 54.1% of the city's occupied homes were renter-occupied. List each available unit with its rent, deposit and application steps on pages that read well on a phone, say which neighborhood it is in, and note when a building sits in a local historic district, since exterior changes there need city approval first. If many of your applicants speak Spanish, translate the application instructions before anything else.
I do exterior work on older homes in Lake Worth Beach. How should my website explain the historic review?
Say plainly whether you take jobs in the city's local historic districts, and name the ones you work in, such as College Park or Old Lucerne. Then explain in a sentence or two that the city requires a Certificate of Appropriateness before exterior work begins on a property in a historic district, and that its preservation staff recommend talking with them before designs are final or materials are bought. Link to the city's historic preservation page for the details, describe only the part of the process you actually handle, and never suggest you can speed up or skip the review.
