A County Growing Faster Than Its Search Results
St. Lucie County is changing quickly. The Census Bureau counted 329,226 residents in April 2020 and estimates 402,449 on July 1, 2025, an increase of 22.2% (Census QuickFacts for St. Lucie County, Port St. Lucie and Fort Pierce (opens in a new tab)). Ranked from the Census Bureau's county population estimates (opens in a new tab), that is the fourth-fastest percentage growth of any Florida county over the same period.
Most of that growth is in Port St. Lucie. The city's estimated population rose 30.9% to 268,062, which places it fifth among Florida cities in the Census Bureau's 2025 city and town estimates (opens in a new tab), and it is home to about two of every three county residents. The building shows up in permit data as well: the Census reports 4,008 new housing units authorized by building permits in St. Lucie County in 2025, close to the 4,228 in Palm Beach County (opens in a new tab), which has almost four times as many people.
Search results often lag behind growth like this. New neighborhoods can fill in before the businesses serving them have websites that mention them, and new residents arrive before they know which local names to search for. A business that describes its location and services clearly for newcomers has an opening that is harder to find in a settled market.
The county's own facts and statistics page (opens in a new tab) sets out the structure: incorporated in 1905, St. Lucie County has two cities, Fort Pierce (the county seat) and Port St. Lucie (the largest), plus St. Lucie Village, and the rest of the county is unincorporated. The same page counts 21 miles of Atlantic coastline, nearly half of it protected as public preservation land and used by nesting sea turtles.
Where A1A Runs in St. Lucie County
Florida's scenic highways program, run by the Florida Department of Transportation, designated the 42-mile Indian River Lagoon-Treasure Coast Scenic Highway (opens in a new tab) in 2005, and its description doubles as a map of the county. A1A runs on the barrier island along the Atlantic, US 1 runs on the mainland through Fort Pierce and Port St. Lucie, and between them lies the Indian River Lagoon, home to more than 4,000 species of plants and animals.
In Fort Pierce, the city lists the National Navy UDT-SEAL Museum at 3300 North A1A (opens in a new tab) and describes Fort Pierce as the birthplace of the Navy Frogman. Closer to downtown, FDOT has been replacing the A1A North Causeway bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway (opens in a new tab) since May 2023, with completion scheduled for late 2027. The project page records an earlier traffic shift at the A1A and Old Dixie Highway intersection and a new traffic pattern on May 15, 2026, when traffic moved onto the new high-level bridge while work continued, and its scope includes a new access road under the bridge to businesses east of the FEC Railroad. For businesses near the causeway, that is years of changing directions to keep up with.
Two Cities, a Village and an Island
Port St. Lucie, Tradition and St. Lucie West. The city's comprehensive plan (opens in a new tab) lists St. Lucie West, approved in 1987, and Tradition, approved in 2003, among its nine active Developments of Regional Impact; Tradition is one of several that came from annexations west of Interstate 95 between 2000 and 2006. Customers often name these areas on their own rather than saying Port St. Lucie. The city is also home to Clover Park (opens in a new tab), the county-operated ballpark that serves as a Major League Baseball spring training home; the county's directions to it start from I-95 Exit 121 at St. Lucie West Boulevard.
Fort Pierce. The county seat is a different market from its larger neighbor. About half of its occupied homes are rented, its median household income is well below Port St. Lucie's, and 43.6% of residents are Black, according to Census QuickFacts. The table below compares the two cities. For the county as a whole, 78.6% of occupied homes are owner-occupied and the median household income is $71,457.
St. Lucie Village and Hutchinson Island. St. Lucie Village is the county's smallest municipality, with an estimated 642 residents in 2025. Out on the barrier island, Discover Martin describes South Hutchinson Island (opens in a new tab) as running from the Fort Pierce Inlet south to the St. Lucie Inlet in Martin County, with three causeways providing access. St. Lucie County's own list of beaches (opens in a new tab) includes Pepper Park and Waveland, where it stations lifeguards, horseback riding at Frederick Douglass Memorial Park and a dog beach at Walton Rocks.

What Drives Business in St. Lucie County
Growth itself is the biggest business driver: new households need builders, movers, roofers, pool companies, pediatricians, dentists, insurance agents and somewhere to eat on Friday night. Census figures for 2022 show about $5.73 billion in retail sales in the county, about $2.38 billion in health care and social assistance receipts and about $716 million in accommodation and food services sales. Employment at the county's 7,292 employer establishments grew 6.0% from 2022 to 2023, and the Census counted 49,271 businesses with no employees in 2024.
The county also spells out which employers it wants to attract. Its targeted industry list (opens in a new tab) covers distribution centers and regional, national and international headquarters; manufacturing that ranges from aviation and aerospace to boats, pharmaceuticals, surgical and medical instruments and aquaculture; clean energy; bio-medical and research and development services; and information industries such as software and data processing.
Visitors add a seasonal layer. Clover Park draws spring training crowds and, according to the county, hosts festivals, concerts, baseball tournaments and RV shows when the players are not in town, and the county notes that its beaches provide recreation for residents and visitors alike.
What That Means for a St. Lucie County Website
Get found by people who just arrived
Newcomers search for everything at once, and they do not know local shorthand yet. Describe your location the way a newcomer can follow it: the city, the area name if customers use one (Tradition, St. Lucie West), the nearest interstate exit or major road, and an embedded map. Clover Park's own directions, which start from I-95 Exit 121, are a good model. Ask every happy customer for an honest review, because a new resident has no word of mouth to go on.
Treat Port St. Lucie and Fort Pierce as different audiences
The table above shows why one generic page rarely works for both cities. A home-improvement company might lead with upgrades and financing for owner-occupied homes in Port St. Lucie, while its Fort Pierce page speaks to landlords and renters as well as owners. A clinic might stress family and pediatric services in Fort Pierce, where a quarter of residents are under 18. Separate pages let you say true, specific things to each audience.
Add Spanish where it pays first
About 24.6% of county residents age 5 and older speak a language other than English at home. The detailed language spoken at home table (opens in a new tab) counts about 54,600 Spanish speakers and about 16,100 who speak French, Haitian or Cajun, out of roughly 342,600 residents in that age group. You do not have to translate everything at once. Start with the pages that bring in work, such as your main services, pricing, booking and contact pages, built as real Spanish pages with the right language tags, and expand from there.
Keep directions and access details current
Road projects like the North Causeway rebuild change how customers reach you, sometimes for years. Keep a short "getting here" note on your website that you can edit yourself in minutes, and update your Google Business Profile at the same time. With our optional SimpleCMS editor, you can make that change yourself from a browser in a few minutes.
Build for the business you will be in three years
Fast-growing markets reward businesses that add services, staff and locations, and a website should not need a rebuild each time. We plan the page structure and navigation so new service pages, team members and locations slot in cleanly, and SimpleCMS lets you manage repeating cards such as staff bios yourself.
Use the event calendar
If you sell food, lodging or entertainment, spring training and the events at Clover Park are worth a dedicated page or a seasonal banner with hours, specials and parking details, published before the crowds arrive.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I reach people who just moved to Port St. Lucie?
Make your website easy for someone with no local knowledge. Name your city and area, such as Tradition or St. Lucie West, give directions from I-95 or a major road, describe your services and prices clearly, and keep your Google Business Profile complete. The Census Bureau estimates Port St. Lucie grew 30.9% between 2020 and 2025, so many potential customers are new to the area.
Fort Pierce and Port St. Lucie feel like different markets. Should my website treat them differently?
Often, yes. Census figures show that 84.0% of occupied homes in Port St. Lucie are owner-occupied, compared with 49.5% in Fort Pierce, and that median household income is $80,648 in Port St. Lucie and $47,072 in Fort Pierce. If you serve both, give each city its own page with the services, prices and examples that fit it, rather than one page that tries to speak to everyone.
Does spring training season matter for my website?
If you sell food, lodging, entertainment or anything else visitors buy, it can. St. Lucie County operates Clover Park in Port St. Lucie, a Major League Baseball spring training home that also hosts festivals, concerts and tournaments. Publish event-week hours and offers early, make your location and parking clear, and update them before the crowds arrive rather than during.
I am a contractor in a fast-growing area. What does my website need?
Proof and clarity. Show recent projects with real photos, list the services and areas you cover, explain your licensing and insurance in plain words, and keep the quote request short. The Census counted 4,008 new housing units authorized by building permits in St. Lucie County in 2025, so homeowners are comparing several contractors at once, and the one whose site answers their questions first has the advantage.
My business is on Hutchinson Island. What should my website tell visitors about getting here?
Everything a first-time visitor needs: which bridge or causeway to take, where to park, your seasonal hours and what to expect if roadwork changes access. The Florida Department of Transportation has been replacing the A1A North Causeway bridge in Fort Pierce since 2023, shifting lanes and intersections along the way, so keep a short access note on your site that you can update the same day things change.
Can you build a website for a manufacturer or distributor, not just a shop or restaurant?
Yes. St. Lucie County's targeted industry list includes distribution centers, headquarters and manufacturers ranging from aviation and aerospace to boats, pharmaceuticals and medical instruments. Those businesses need clear capability pages, accurate descriptions of their certifications, request-for-quote forms and recruiting pages, and we hand-code them the same way we build every site.
