A1A Web Design builds websites and local search for Jensen Beach businesses, from downtown shops and restaurants to contractors, lagoon guides and wedding vendors. Aldo works remotely from Buffalo, New York, on the same Eastern time as Jensen Beach. We have no Florida office, so every project runs by phone, video and email.
Jensen Beach at a Glance for Business Owners
Jensen Beach had a village government of its own for just eight years. Martin County's Jensen Beach Community Redevelopment Plan (opens in a new tab) records that the village incorporated during the 1925 land boom, the same year Martin County was created, and became unincorporated again in 1933. Today the Census Bureau counts it as a census-designated place in northeastern Martin County, and the state's 2017 management plan for Savannas Preserve State Park (opens in a new tab) places that park north of "the unincorporated area of Jensen Beach." Martin County runs its downtown redevelopment district and its county parks.
The 2020 Census counted 12,652 people here, up from 11,707 in 2010, according to Census QuickFacts (opens in a new tab). QuickFacts lists no annual population estimate for the community, as it does for incorporated cities, but the Census Bureau's 2020-2024 American Community Survey (opens in a new tab) puts the population at 12,531, with a median age of 56.3 and 33.1% of residents aged 65 or older. For marketing, the more useful number is where people came from. In the same survey's social profile (opens in a new tab), 63.8% of residents were born in another U.S. state and 10.1% were foreign-born, while only 24.1% were born in Florida.
From pineapple fields to a causeway
The community takes its name from John Jensen, a Danish immigrant who, the county's redevelopment plan says, qualified for a homestead certificate on the land in 1881. When Henry Flagler's East Coast railroad reached the area in 1894, growers could load fruit locally, and by 1895 Jensen was known as the "Pineapple Capital of the World," complete with a pineapple canning factory. Florida State Parks repeats that title in its overview of nearby Savannas Preserve State Park (opens in a new tab). A fire in 1908 destroyed almost the entire business section, and nematode infestation and high freight rates wore down the pineapple trade. In 1925 a mile-long wooden bridge went up to Hutchinson Island, and the plan credits its popularity with anglers for turning the village toward tourism. Work on the Jensen Beach Causeway began in 1957, and its bridge was finished in 1965.
The lagoon, the park and the beach
Downtown Jensen Beach faces the Indian River Lagoon. The redevelopment plan describes a district of roughly 65 acres that runs a little more than half a mile from north to south, between the river on the east and the Florida East Coast Railway tracks on the west, with the Town of Ocean Breeze along its southern edge. Indian River Drive follows the shoreline and carries traffic between Stuart, Rio, Sewall's Point and southern St. Lucie County. The causeway, which the Florida Department of Transportation lists as State Road 732 (opens in a new tab), crosses the lagoon to Hutchinson Island and A1A. Jensen Beach and Port Salerno became Martin County's first community redevelopment areas in 1999 (opens in a new tab), and the current Jensen Beach plan is dated 2002 and was revised in 2009.
Indian RiverSide Park (opens in a new tab), at 1707 NE Indian River Drive, covers 63 acres, with half a mile of lagoon frontage, a 780-foot fishing pier, a mangrove boardwalk, a free splash fountain and three rental venues. The county's history of the Mansion at Tuckahoe (opens in a new tab) says the house stands on Mount Elizabeth, a mound about 4,000 years old, and was completed in 1939. It later housed St. Joseph College of Florida, then served Florida Institute of Technology as an administration building until 1986. Martin County bought the property in 1997, opened the first phase of the park in 2001 and finished restoring the mansion in 2009.
The water is protected as well. The lagoon off downtown belongs to the Jensen Beach to Jupiter Inlet Aquatic Preserve (opens in a new tab), designated in 1973 and covering about 23,000 acres across St. Lucie, Martin and Palm Beach counties. North of town, Savannas Preserve State Park, 6,877 acres in its 2017 state plan, reaches into Port St. Lucie and keeps a day use area on Jensen Beach Boulevard. Across the causeway, Martin County Ocean Rescue (opens in a new tab) guards a beach that is also simply called Jensen Beach, at 4191 NE Ocean Blvd.
How residents earn a living
Working residents lean toward services and the trades. In the survey's economic profile (opens in a new tab), 21.6% of employed residents worked in education, health care and social assistance, 12.5% in arts, recreation, lodging and food service, 12.3% in construction and 10.2% in retail. Nearly one worker in five, 18.2%, worked from home. Only 49.6% of residents 16 and older were in the labor force, in line with the community's older population. The same profile puts median household income at $70,884, and QuickFacts reports about $376 million in sales by retail businesses in the community in 2022. On the housing side, 77.0% of occupied homes are owner-occupied, the median owner-occupied value is $411,700, mobile homes make up 13.8% of housing units, and about 45% of units were built between 1970 and 1989.
What a Jensen Beach Website Needs to Do
Those figures describe customers who were often born in another state, who may be away for months at a time, and who may reach you from either side of the lagoon. Downtown, the county's plan aims for a district people walk rather than drive through. A site that works here plans for all four.
- Directions for people who moved here: With most residents born in another state, directions that lean on landmarks only longtime locals know will lose people. Give the street, the nearest cross street and one public landmark, such as Indian RiverSide Park or the causeway, and link to a map.
- Hiring from out of town: The Census survey counted 802 homes held for seasonal or occasional use (opens in a new tab). Home watch, pool, lawn and repair businesses should let an owner request work, approve it and pay without being in town.
- A downtown people walk: The redevelopment plan's vision is a pedestrian-friendly, mixed-use community with street life and on-street parking, and the whole district is little more than half a mile long. Tell visitors where to park, how far the walk is and what else is close, so one stop can turn into two.
- Pages everyone can use: The survey found 16.6% of residents living with a disability. Menus, trip details and price lists should be real text on the page, not a photo of a printed sheet, so zoom and screen readers can handle them. Our ADA website accessibility page explains the WCAG 2.2 AA standard we build to.
- A daytime audience at home: With 18.2% of workers based at home, weekday traffic is not only visitors. Lunch specials, midday appointment slots and quick replies to a contact form can win customers who are working a few blocks away.
- History used honestly: The county and the state both document the pineapple years, and an About page can mention them, but stick to what the record shows and link to the source rather than borrowing a heritage your business does not have.
Island address tip: On Martin County's stretch of Hutchinson Island, addresses on the same road carry different town names. Ocean Rescue lists its guarded beaches at 4191 NE Ocean Blvd., Jensen Beach, and 889 NE Ocean Blvd., Stuart. If your business is on the island, say "Hutchinson Island" and "A1A" along with your mailing town, so customers and search engines know you are on the ocean side.
Jensen Beach Businesses We Build For
The Census job figures above point to a wider mix of work than the beach name suggests. These are the kinds of businesses we expect to hear from most, and what each site has to do well.
- Downtown restaurants, bars and shops: The redevelopment plan describes a small but popular business area along Jensen Beach Boulevard with many restaurants and entertainment spots. A restaurant website here should put the menu, the day's hours and parking directions within one tap.
- Wedding and event vendors: Indian RiverSide Park holds three county rental venues. Planners, caterers, photographers and florists can use our hospitality websites to give each venue they have actually worked at its own page, written from that experience.
- Lagoon guides, rentals and charters: Trip pages with a meeting point near the causeway, what to bring and a weather policy, built to read on a phone in a parking lot. See custom website design.
- Contractors and home services: About 45% of homes date from the 1970s and 1980s, and mobile homes make up nearly one unit in seven, so say plainly which kinds of homes and which jobs you take on. Google says local results are mainly based on relevance, distance and popularity (opens in a new tab), so our local SEO work builds service pages around the roads and neighborhoods you really cover.
- Real estate and property management: Buyers comparing Jensen Beach with Stuart or Port St. Lucie need plain explanations: that it is unincorporated Martin County, which side of the lagoon a listing sits on, and, for downtown property, that it falls inside a county redevelopment district with its own plan. See real estate website design.
- Health care and wellness: Education, health care and social assistance employ more residents than any other field. Clinics and therapists need accessible forms and pages that load quickly on any phone, which our website performance work covers.
- Visibility in AI answers: Because "Jensen Beach" names a community, an ocean beach and a causeway, assistants can mix them up. Clear facts on your site, set out for answer engines and generative AI tools, help them describe your business correctly.

Jensen Beach Website Questions
Searches for Jensen Beach often mean the ocean beach. How do I keep customers from heading to the wrong side of the lagoon?
Say which side you are on right under your address. Martin County's guarded beach named Jensen Beach is at 4191 NE Ocean Blvd. on Hutchinson Island, while the old downtown is on the mainland along Jensen Beach Boulevard and Indian River Drive, with the Indian River Lagoon in between. A short line such as 'mainland, off Indian River Drive' or 'on the island, off A1A' helps, and so does checking that the map pin on your Google Business Profile sits on the correct side of the water.
A lot of my customers own a home in Jensen Beach but spend only part of the year here. What should my website do for them?
Make it possible to hire you from anywhere. The Census Bureau's 2020-2024 survey found 802 homes here held for seasonal or occasional use, roughly one housing unit in nine. Owners who are away want to describe the job in a form or email, see photos before and after, approve a quote and pay online, and know who will be checking on the house. Put your service area, response time and payment options in plain view.
I am a wedding or event vendor who works at the Mansion at Tuckahoe. Can my website have a page about the venue?
Yes, and it can be one of your most useful pages if it stays honest. The mansion is one of three county rental venues in Indian RiverSide Park, along with the Frances Langford Dockside Pavilion and Captain Henry Sewall's House. Write from your own experience there, use your own photos, and link to Martin County's park page for booking rules rather than copying them. Do not use county logos or call yourself an official or preferred vendor unless the county has told you in writing that you are one.
Can my website say City of Jensen Beach or Town of Jensen Beach?
No. The village incorporated in 1925 but gave that up in 1933, according to the county's redevelopment plan, and it is unincorporated today. The incorporated town on the southern edge of the downtown district is Ocean Breeze, a separate government, so a made-up title can confuse customers about where you are. Write your address exactly as the Postal Service does, and in your structured data we describe Jensen Beach as a place within Martin County, which matches how the Census Bureau and the state describe it.
I rent kayaks or run fishing trips near the Jensen Beach Causeway. What should my website tell people about the lagoon?
Tell them where to meet, where to park and what kind of water to expect. The lagoon here is part of the Jensen Beach to Jupiter Inlet Aquatic Preserve, about 23,000 acres of state-protected water designated in 1973, with seagrass beds, mangroves and manatees, and the state lists Jensen Beach Causeway Park and the Indian RiverSide Park boat ramp among its access points. Spell out your launch spot, trip length, what to bring and your weather policy, and link to official sources for the rules instead of summarizing them from memory.
Can a small downtown Jensen Beach shop compete in search with businesses in Stuart and Port St. Lucie?
For nearby searches and searches that name Jensen Beach, yes. Google counts distance among the main factors in local results, so a shop does not need to outrank all of Stuart or Port St. Lucie to show up for someone standing on Jensen Beach Boulevard. Name your cross street, describe what you sell in plain words, and mention the nearest public landmark. In a downtown district only about half a mile long, that kind of detail is easy to get right.
